131 – 가야금 ‘Let it Be’ (KORAIL Final Station Music)

September 4, 2010

Today’s sound is a classic for anyone who’s ever ridden cross-country on one of the KORAIL trains here on the peninsula.  It’s the Beatles’ ‘Let it Be’ performed on the Korean 가야금 (Gayageum) and is played onboard whenever a train arrives at it’s final destination.  This was recorded in 강릉시 강원도, (Gangneung, Gangwon Province) along the East Sea. (131 – Gayageum ‘Let it Be’)

Recorded 7/26/10, 1:52PM (local time)

Stevie, this is the first time I’ve heard this one and I have to say it’s excellent. I don’t know why you don’t have 1,000,000+ hits telling you ‘thank you’. On another note, I wonder if they got permission to use this? Maybe they don’t need it since it’s a derivative work?

Haha, thanks. I’m sure they have permission to use the recording and that the artist had permission to record it. Whether or not KORAIL is paying Michael Jackson’s estate, or whoever owns the Beatles’ library these days, is a totally different story. Probably not, though.
