156 – 인사동 땅콩과자 (Insadong Peanut Snack), Parts 1-2

November 18, 2010

Here are two samples that I recorded along Insadong Street in Jongno Seoul, while filming for the Arirang TV ‘Today’s Blog’ Program.  This is the first two of a four-part sample set that goes through the process of making this snack:

This first sound is the woman in the picture above mixing all of the ingredients in a bowl.  There’s a man’s voice in the background, selling the snack to passers-by.  Towards the end of the recording, the woman begins to explain the ingredients of the snack and comments that she her arms are tired from turning the viscous mixture. (156a – Insadong Snack)

The second sound has the seller rolling out the snack by hand.  She has to make it flat and let it sit a little bit before it can be cut into small Rice Krispie Treat-like squares.  At the very end, she comments that we must wait a few minutes for the snack to settle before she can move on to the next step.  (156b – Insadong Snack 2)

Recorded 5/26/10, 5:52PM (local time)
